It was late September and this dark purple flower was just beginning to emerge. There were only two or three flowers on the sunny slope facing west at 2600m. The flowers, unopened were deep purple in color. The leaves were long and lanceolate. This is an edible wildflower, the bulbs are boiled and eaten with ghee as a remedy for dysentery. It is found across the Himalayas from Pakistan to SW China.
