Nepali: Bhir amilo
This begonia likes well shaded areas of the roadside on rocky areas covered with ferns. The flowers are produced on long stalks with large petals on top and bottom and side slender side petals. An edible Begonia enjoyed for its sour flavor in pickles and eaten raw. It has medicinal properties being used for chest pains and for boils. It is found at lower elevations from 600m to 1700m.

Painted Leaf Begonia
Nepali: Magar Kanche, Makarkachi
A large leaf begonia that is easily separated from others by the coloration on the leaves and long pendulous flowering stalks. It grows on rocks along the road, flowers in August and is found at elevations ranging from 1700m to 2400m at Phulchowki. The leaves and petioles are sometimes eaten as a pickle, also the leaves are cooked or sometimes eaten raw. It is found in Nepal east to west and across the Himalayas.
