Hydrangea Family
Hydrangea anomala D.Don
Himalayan Hydrangea
Nepali: Phusre kath
This one grows a short distance above the bus stop, at an area that we call a meadow, but it is actually just a wide spot in the road where many butterflies tend to gather. It is barely 1.5km from the Naudhara mandir on the road. The Hydrangea grows next to the road and climbs up into the jungle near a small seasonal stream. It is about 2-5m tall with showy white sterile outer flowers and small flat clusters in the middle of the outer white flowers.
Hydrangea aspera subsp. robusta
(Hook. Fil. & Thoms.)Mc.
Himalayan Tree Hydrangea
Nepali: Phirphire Ghans
The Himalayan Tree Hydrangea is a loose shrub with dangling flower clusters. The white flowers hang loosely from the center cluster of pale purple sterile flowers. The leaves are broadly elliptic. Flowering was in late August at 2300m. It grows throughout the Himalayas.
